Fairies and Moonlight
The Sun kissed the blushing Sky
And bid a lingering goodbye!
Twilight and then the evening bell,
And after that the darkness fell!
The stars... one by one began to peep
The Prussian blue curtain dark and deep!
Soon they were all on the stage
To crinkle and winkle, defying age!
Somewhere far-far on earth below
Tiny fairies and elves with faces aglow
Awaken from their soft green leafy beds
Amongst yellow daffodils, the sleepyheads!
They joyfully call out to each other,
Adorn the Crystal Chariot in summer
With roses, bluebells and sage green
For their King and lovely Queen!
The Moon glides quietly and gently
Into the scene with a whisper, barely
She reaches out with her silvery fingers
On one and all her soft touch lingers.
The naughty elves and fairies
Laugh, giggle and nibble berries.
As they flit over glistening streams
Of shimmering bright moonbeams!
The Fairy Queen softly glides
Over her minions gently presides
Her golden tresses a pretty sight
Glowing in the bright moon light!
“My little ones hurry! Come O Come!
Let’s hasten to the Ball under the old gum!”
She calls softly and deftly claps!
The elves hurriedly adjust their caps.
The King dressed in his finery, best
Steps into the chariot from the left
Helps his Queen climb into the ride
And aids her sit, close by his side!
The fairies happy and in flight
Hasten to their left and right
Hurry the slow crawling Beetles
And the Crickets with needles
To pull the Crystal Chariot, wheedle!
“Away...Away... you all
Let’s go and enjoy the Ball
Where the plums sweet, grow
And the blue river flows, slow
There, let us all hurry and go!"
In delight the royal couple calls
As the chariot heads for Dew Falls.
