Let it Snow...

Outside the snow was falling gently. The snowflakes softly kissed the leafless trees, the roofs and the dimly lit lamp posts. It was a white winter wonderland outside. The lights from the window spilled onto the snow just outside in an amber splash. Lavinia shivered slightly as she pulled the curtain back into place and walked into the kitchen. Man, it didn’t show signs of stopping! It was awfully cold and she rubbed her hands together to warm them. There was going to be no romantic drive around that night. The strains of a carol came floating from the living room. Alex was decorating the Christmas tree in preparation for the Big Day! Lavinia smiled as the lyrics begin to make sense:

‘Oh, the weather outside is frightful

But the fire is so delightful

And since we’ve no place to go

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!’

She joined Dean Martin and sang softly as she cut open a packet of popcorn kernels and emptied the contents in the hot pan over the fire:

“Man, it doesn’t show signs of stoppin’

And I brought me some corn for poppin’

The lights are turned way down low

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!”

The kernels went, ‘Pop! Pop! Pop!’ in the covered dish as they felt the warmth of the fire and the sunshine yellow butter. A delicious aroma filled the air. Alex peeked into the kitchen and looked at her with raised eyebrows.

“Popcorns!” Lavinia announced and smiled, all the while filling a bowl with the golden snack.

“Great!” he said. “Time for a break I guess! Shall I pour us a glass of port wine?”

“Yes! That would be great!” she beamed at him.

They snuggled in each other’s arms in front of the glowing fireplace. The fragrance of the burning wood mingled with that of the pine tree. Lavinia inhaled the sweet smell appreciatively. Popcorns and wine taste better than ambrosia when lost in love and Christmas carols. She leaned closer into his embrace and heard the music of his heartbeats as she laid her head against his chest. Lavinia sighed softly as she thought, ‘This is the best music in the world for me! No carol, no song can ever outshine it!’

“What?” he asked as he fed her popcorn.

“Nothing...” she replied with a smile. She looked at him with all her love for him shining through her eyes. “I love you.” she whispered softly.

“Really? Thank God you told me! Good!” he laughed and bent his head to seek a kiss.

“Darling!” Lavinia yelled and jumped up suddenly. “I almost forgot!”

“What? What did you forget?” He asked startled.

“What’s the time? ‘The Grinch’ will be on T.V.! I don’t want to miss this Jim Carrey film. Come on!” she said excitedly.

“Sweetheart...! You’re the limit!” He groaned. “You gave me such a start!”

“I know!” Lavinia smiled impishly. “That’s why you love me.”
