Mistletoe Magic – The ‘Cover’ Story
Every book has a cover and every cover has a story and Mistletoe Magic has its own Cover Story. So, once the novel was done the next obvious thing was to send it over to Poornima to read through and share her feelings and views on the plot and script. That not only helps me to get a valuable feedback on the virgin script but also it helps Poornima to visualize the cover for the book.
So, Poornima greeted the news that the new novel which I hadn’t christened till then was almost complete with joy and surprise. I told her that I needed a fortnight to wind up the story. Then in the said number of days I shared the manuscript with her and waited patiently for her to read it. By now I had named the book and weaved the name into a conversation towards the end of the novel. In record time she responded enthusiastically saying she absolutely loved it – it was a beautiful love story. A few surprise elements added to the charm of the plot. (Kindly refer to Poornima’s review on Amazon to know more of what she thinks of Mistletoe Magic).
Reading the novel gave her imagination wings but mine had frozen due to the extreme cold wave that had enveloped the northern part of the country in those days. I couldn’t think of anything for the Cover! So, Poornima wanted to try something new and she was very excited about it; so was I once she shared what she had in mind. I sent her a few pics of mistletoe to clarify what they really are. And, the talented artist in her pieced everything carefully in her mind, all set to start.
All this while I was corresponding with the publisher inching closer to the completion of the project! The last piece of the puzzle was the cover which had to fall exactly into place to complete the picture when kismet decided to play a few tricks. Poornima who was to attend a cousin’s wedding forgot to carry her ‘toolbox’, how could she then create the masterpiece needed? And, when she finally did return, the ‘flu’ decided to pay her a visit. But racing against time with her boots buckled up she aced the challenge and we reached the finish line with more than 24 hours to spare.
The Cover turned out beautifully with the balanced combination of all Christmas colours – white, green, red and shades of golden yellow. If you look carefully you’ll be able to spy a gentle shade of blue in the background of the cover. So the Cover gives a very Christmassy feeling with romance in the air as you see the mistletoe and holly dangling delicately with a red ribbon. The Title on the Cover has beautiful curves and tails and you’re absolutely not to miss the snowflake designed into the dot above the ‘I’. Poornima was doubtful about its shape but I was convinced that a little asymmetry adds to the beauty of things – that’s what life is about, isn’t it? Asymmetry in Symmetry makes everything more real. The sprinkle of snow in the backdrop adds to the magical quality of the design and brings out the magical element of the story. Ahh... there is some magic within the novel which you’ve got to read to know more about.
Does all this make you curious? Are you eager to know the story? That’s really good. Remember, the aroma and sight of food makes us hungrier. So, what are you waiting for? Get your copy of Mistletoe Magic, admire the Cover before you flip open the pages and lose yourself in a world of romance, and magic of the holiday season.
