When Autumn visits
Autumn is here with swirling leaves
Dressed in red, with golden sleeves
Gently she spins and swiftly twirls
She laughs gaily and flicks her curls.
She treads softly on falling leaves
Whether from boughs or from eaves.
Leaves, all brown, yellow and red
For sleeping seeds make a comfy bed.
She peeps in from windowpanes curiously
Even as Mr. Wind howls loud and furiously
Happy families dine together joyfully
In front of warm fireplaces blazing cosily.
She tiptoes from house to house eagerly
Enjoying happy scenes from every family
Whether poor or rich, dining happily
Off pies, soups, or just bread humbly.
Autumn pirouettes along blowing kisses
To the sleeping Mr. Squirrel and his missus.
She checks on Mrs. Mole and Mrs. Hare
And their babies, soundly asleep after prayer.
She skips gleefully to the wooden bench, old
To await the coming of her Sister, in cold
She arranges her pretty skirts beautifully
As she awaits Winter’s coming dutifully.
She looks up at the brilliant stars in the sky
As a few more leaves from their boughs fly
If you wish to meet her you’ve got to hurry
She’ll soon be gone in Winter’s first flurry!
