When bookmarks party at night!
Hello there!
We're to have a midnight catch up party. (Yawn) It's been a long day. So much of work these days. My friends will be here soon. They too have been busy in their turn for the last year and a half. What did you say? You want to know who am I ? Can't you see my sleek figure and guess? No! I'm not just a ribbon. (Rolling eyes) I'm a bookmark. Come on!
Well, till the others come let me tell you about them, about my friends. There's the one who is a genuine bookmark. He's sleek and has a glossy look. He flaunts a butterfly sitting on a rose and a beautiful quotation from Ruskin Bond - 'Happiness is a mysterious thing, to be found somewhere between too little and too much'. He's the jovial one - laughs and smiles a lot. He's mighty proud of his look. If I asked you to guess where he resides, I'm sure you would have got it right at once. (laughs) Yes, 'The Room on the Roof' is his home.
Then there's the silver one - a handsome fellow. He's shaped like a leaf. The veins stand out beautifully. He's been crafted with much care by the jewellers. There's a row of red and white precious stones on his spine. He's a Christmas gift from a dear family friend. He reclines in an ancient Oxford Dictionary. Hmm... actually he's quite stuffy. He hardly speaks much to us and when he does, he spouts words and phrases we can hardly understand! Phew! His accent is difficult to follow too.
Ahh... there's a pure white feather among us. She's so lovely, delicate and innocent. I can hardly take my eyes off her. In fact, all the guys here are enchanted by her beauty. You must watch her as she gracefully steps out of 'P.S. I Love You' every night. Ohh... it's a delight to watch her walk! She's as light as the air and seems to float as she walks towards us.
Now, I wonder if I should mention those toffee wrappers! They're the worst of our lot. Noisy hooligans! They make a lot of noise and scream the place down with their talk of characters from those Comics. You must hear the slang they use! I must say it's truly vulgar. I just manage not to box their ears for them. It gets difficult to shut them up once they start. The least said about them the better.
Ahh... Let me tell you about Mr. Ticket. Yes, he's very punctual at every get- together we have. He lives in the Mills and Boons novel penned by Betty Neels... 'Roses for Christmas'. He's quite a romantic young fellow. I know he harbours some serious feelings for Ms. Feather. (laughs) You must see him blush when she steals looks in his direction.
And... then there are the dog ears. But they never join us for any party. They're quite reserved and don't mix up easily. They prefer to stick to their shores. They're a silent lot. You won't hear them speaking much. So, I don't know much about them and their books. Once, one of them told me about a delicious recipe. My mouth watered just thinking of all the ingredients and the dish, he marked in the book.
So you see, we're so diverse but yet we're a precious lot. I don't think you would be able to imagine or manage your books without us. Finally! Here come the others. Well, I'm going to say goodbye! Catch you later!
